Transporting furry friends to safe places.

CART - an all-volunteer ground transport team dedicated to helping homeless pets reach safe shelters, foster and permanent homes in Illinois.

Our Story

Canine Area Rescue  and Transport (CART) is dedicated to rescuing and transporting homeless animals from animal control centers to safe shelters/foster based rescues.  Our primary focus is to serve centers in Central Illinois.  To accomplish this C.A.R.T. volunteers work to locate safe animal shelters/foster based rescues and then provide transportation for these animals to these destinations.  Transports are a leg-to-leg, ground relay transport. Each transport typically has multiple legs, averaging between an hour to an hour and a half per leg. When all the necessary legs have been filled with the appropriate number of drivers needed to safely and comfortably carry the number of animals coming, a final run sheet is sent out to all of the parties involved in the transport. This final run sheet details each leg of the transport; the meeting location in each city; contact information for each of the drivers; information on the sending shelters and receiving rescues; and detailed information on each of the animals (passengers) traveling. For larger transports, we will sometimes assign passengers to each driver on the transport.
C.A.R.T. also provides funds for vetting procedures such as spay and neutering, Health Certificates, vaccines, medical interventions which will help to make these homeless pets ready for adoption or rescue.
